AmigaOne X1000 "Nemo" Motherboard
One of the first people I met at AmiWest back in 2007, was Steven Solie. He was setting up maybe 10 feet away from me, next to Bill P. from DiscreetFX. While there I was able to interview him and see his presentation on what he was then working on. Now, he shares his experience of getting his beta Amiga One X1000 setup...

Someone from the Short Mountain Repeater Club, made a nice video from the Huntsville hamfest. It shows Ten Tec‘s booth all setup and looking sharp. It’s a short video but by all means it still is nice to get a look at hamfests from other parts of the country.  Read More →

After a lightning strike near his house took out a good portion of his shack, John, W5CYF, has posted a video bringing his viewers up to speed to on how his shack is coming along after he has started to get some new equipment to get back on the air. He seems to have a nice collection of radios.  Read More →
RigBlaster Advantage
So again, I am looking in the QST, and I found that West Mountain Radio is offering a new RigBlaster. Sweet! I love their products. So I read on and notice something is missing from the info on the website and in the QST ad. Does it support Mac?  Read More →

So let me preface this post with the fact that I absolutely LOVE Christmas! It’s not about the gifts or anything…just the whole spirit of the season. Stores already have Christmas decorations out and Halloween hasn’t even hit yet! What do I not like about the season? The snow of course. But it’s...
Screen Shot from DX Sherlock Showing 6 Meter Activity
When I got my new QST the other day, I was flipping through it and found myself on the quick stats page. One of the questions was pretty simple and easy. Do you use 6 meters? WOW! The answer floored me.  Read More →
USS Pampanito
I didn’t post anything yesterday because I wasn’t feeling well, so to make up for it I give you this. Southgate ARC has a story posted about the USS Pampanito, a World War II Balao class Fleet submarine, that is docked at pier 45 at Fisher Man’s Wharf in San Fransisco. They have an Amateur Radio...

The North Texas Balloon Project is going to be launching mission number 19 tomorrow, at about 8:30am central time. The balloon will have a few payloads attached with different sensors and a 10 meter beacon aboard. It’s expected to go up to 100,000 feet, which will take approximately 90 minutes and return by parachute...

So it’s the day after Kim’s Birthday. She came up to work to have lunch with me and then that night we all went out to Macaroni Grill fro dinner. That was my first time there, but Kim had been before. Overall, I liked it, but I wouldn’t have minded going over to the Hooter’s across the street. Podcast:...

Sometimes I just come across some real cool videos when I’m not trying. This is one of those times. It’s surprising how many good videos are on YouTube and just don’t make it to my suggestion area on the front page of my profile. I think YouTube needs to work on that algorithm.  Read More →

Astronaut Stephen Robinson rides Canadarm2 during the STS-114 mission of the space shuttle Discovery to the ISS in 2005 August.
I’m not a fan of New Kids on the Block, but this title just jumped out at me when I saw the story over at ARRL.ORG that NASA is looking for more astronauts. Currently there are only 59, where a decade ago, there was 150. Since the retirement of the Shuttle, the numbers have been going down.  Read More →
Tryon Amateur Radio Club
The Edmonton Amateur Radio Society is sponsoring a “Try Amateur Radio Day”  tomorrow at the local high school. When I saw this online, I thought, “That’s a pretty great way to get the hobby in the public view.” Just setup, do some operating and invite people to stop on by and have a look...
Flag of California
The last 24 hours here in Upstate NY has been flood warnings and weather watches, and I want to get away from that for a bit. A good place to go, I think, is California. So why not join in on their 45th running of their QSO Party which is probably the largest in the U.S.  Read More →

We made it through Hurricane turned tropical storm Irene pretty much unscathed, however some others were not so lucky. The floods around here were incredible and many people lost their homes to the waters. What is going on with the weather lately? Hurricanes, incredible floods, earthquakes…and now we’re...
An image from the ARISSat-1 SSTV
This one is going to be a little short, but here is some highlights of the ARISSat-1 on the event of it’s 1 month of service, and the 1 month of me trying to still receive it. While I am not bitter, I do cry myself to sleep sometimes at night, knowing I may never get to hear it. And if you believed that last...
Color Test Card
After only 78 views on the website yesterday, I figured I should step up my game. One aspect of Ham Radio that I started to look at was Digital Amateur TV. The analog version, while still around, I’m sure is fun, but digital seems more my speed, being a Ham and a Geek.  Read More →
Plumes of smoke billow from the World Trade Center towers in New York City after a Boeing 767 hits each tower during the September 11 attacks
It’s very hard to believe it’s been 10 years since that horrible day when nearly 3 thousand people were killed. I’m sure many of us remember where we were when we found out. It’s a fixed point in time, to use Doctor Who terminology. To commemorate this event, Special Event stations will be on...

Kim, Terry and I survived Hurricane Irene. Well, by the time it got to us, it was a Tropical Storm. But still, we were a little worried about what we were going to get. And by the time it got here, it really wasn’t too bad, but the rain and wind did really do a number on our area. Podcast: Play in new window ...

There was a lot of news coverage for then Hurricane Irene and what people should do and not do during the storm as well as get ready. Kim, my YL, and I did what we needed, to get ready and we felt pretty set and ready to ride out the storm. But as luck would have it, there really wasn’t that much to ride out...
