This show is mostly about news. We start with some world and U.S. news including some new information about the tragedy on the cruise ship in Italy. We have promised to not talk about politics on the show since we have varying opinions, but I threw in a controversial subject about the death penalty. Rich and I are pretty much on the same page as far as that is concerned, but we do have a good conversation about it.

Another controversial subject is censorship – we are both radio personalities and are both strongly against censorship in any way, however Twitter is now able to censor tweets by individual countries. How do we feel about this? It’s in our technology news section. As is Rich’s favorite fruit to talk about, Apple!

Some entertainment news this week brings us some nominees for the Academy of Country Music Awards (Go Carrie!) We also talk about the new movie One For The Money, that we are actually going to see on Friday. We will have a review on the next show.

I will be on the road traveling for work for a week a half, so next week’s show will be recorded together and then we will be experimenting with a skype recording and hopefully that works out for Episode 33!

Rich says BAZINGA!

Now yes, my little blow up that last time was not very nice, and I did apologize to him. But moving on from that, we took some questions from you the listeners and visitors to Amiga.org and pose them to the owner. Now you’re probably asking why I haven’t mentioned his name yet. Well, if I keep you in suspense, it’s an incentive to listen to the show! See how that works? There’s no conspiracy, or anything like that. So if a troll tells you otherwise, just ask me. I’ll tell you everything I know. And if you’re a troll that is spreading rumors, then shame on you! Shame, shame, shame! I hope a rabid wolverine is dropped into your pants!

But, it’s a shorter show then we normally do, simply because, we didn’t get many questions sent in. Only 3 people emailed in the questions, all of which we asked. The rules were that we would ask them all, not matter what, and the owner would then be able to answer them, and had the option to refuse to answer a question. We added a couple of followups, but all in all, it was “OK” by my standards, just based on lack of questions. For many people, I guess this is a non issue with some people. who the owner is. I didn’t really have any burning desire to know who the owner is, and now that I do, nothing has changed for me. I like the site and that is all there is to it for me. As for others, now you have your answers and I hope that satisfy the questions and issues you had. If not, the door is open for another show to ask questions.

So, that’s it! It’s done and out. So, what do you think? Was it what you were hoping for? I just hope the next episode with the owner is much better. And by then I’ll be able to put <del>Ted’s</del> the owner’s name in the show notes. Till then!

There was a lot of news coverage for then Hurricane Irene and what people should do and not do during the storm as well as get ready. Kim, my YL, and I did what we needed, to get ready and we felt pretty set and ready to ride out the storm. But as luck would have it, there really wasn’t that much to ride out where we were. We got lucky. Most of the damage from Irene was in other areas. Flooding and power outages were the main things. But there was a mudslide up in Troy, N.Y. that occurred because of the storm. But here at my home QTH, we saw mostly small limbs down. When I went out to check this morning, it was just a bit messier from the wind we had last night. But still nothing major on our end.

All through out, Kim, my daughter and I were inside from about 6pm Saturday night till about 6:30pm Sunday evening. All that time was TV, movies and news about the storm, except for a few hours I got on the local repeaters and helped out Tom, N2SQO with a Skywarn net for WX2ALY, the National Weather Service station in Valatie, N.Y.

So here is the video from our little “walkabout” on Sunday night during a break in the storm.

So I have been doing this blog regular now for a couple months, and I must admit, that when I start something new nowadays, I get a “..For Dummies” book to help me get started. From there I move on to more advanced aspects of the project or hobby. But it wasn’t like that with Ham Radio. I just did some old fashioned research at the library, called the ARRL, got some books, studied and took my test. Now look where I am! I’m a blogger with a need for some guests to come in and post a story here or there.

I read in my copy of “Professional Blogging For Dummies”, that missing one day of blogging won’t kill your blog. A couple may show a drop but more then a few, and you risk losing some readers. And since I am just starting this blog, I think I better line up some backup. This won’t be a constant thing, unless someone really wants to blog on here on a regular basis. Right now, Eddie, who is a co-host on the Amiga Roundtable Podcast, does a feature now and again called “Op-Eddie“. It’s just an opinion column type thing he posts when he has time to. It’s nice when he does because he adds some fresh content. And to be honest, not much really happens in the Amiga Community. But when it does, it does get interesting.

But as for Amateur Radio, there is always something going on. From the Space Station to new DXCC list entries, software, radios being announced, and more! And I am but one man in this vast universe! So I figured I should see if anyone else is interested in getting the blogging bug. And that’s where you might come in. If you’re interested.

Basically, I’m just asking for someone to come in when I need a day off, or if you maybe have a blogging itch to scratch or something. I can tell you now, there are a few days in July and August I plan on taking off, and would love if someone would be interested in “covering for me” for those few days. It doesn’t need to be anything grandiose. If you’ve been reading what I post here, you can see what I mean. Just your take on something going on in the Ham Radio community and lifestyle. Amiga users are welcome to hop in on this too.

There’s no pay in it. I have yet to make much if any money off this website. So don’t expect a paycheck. But if you would like to post a link to an ad for your website, or if you’re an affiliate for something that is not “Adult” in nature and want to post that in your article somewhere, feel free. But if you have a passion of Ham Radio, or Amigas, and it sounds interesting to you or maybe you just want to get a little more traffic to your website, please let me know. I would love to talk to you.

Hosts: Rich Lawrence, Sean Fitzgerald, Mike Blackburn, Bill P, and Jerry Withers. Well we did it! We finally hit 50 episodes! It look us long enough right? Well, some good things take time, and I think this episode came out great. It was all there, great topics, and we were all in a really good mood going into it. Things just seemed to flow together. We kind of segued into the different topics, rather then stopping and starting like we normally do, and that made it even better in my opinion. We also debuted our new theme song! “Disorganized Fun” by Ronald Jenkees. Don’t you think it adds something fresh to the show? Also, I said the song, in the closing, from his debut CD. It’s not, it’s from his second CD. And before you ask, yes, we got his permission to use it.

We started the show talking about the “Rapture” that didn’t seem to happen. Well it may have, but no one was worthy enough to be taken. Better luck next time? We went on to talk a little about the Sam460EX. And Bill brought up a good point about what a complete system of the 460EX needs. (Hint: If your a mod on AW.net, it’s a joke. Just sayin’)

After that discussion, we started talking about Amiga OS 4.1 for Classic hardware. Jerry has hardware that can run it, but he doesn’t turn it on that much for fear it could die on him. Kind of like the law of diminishing returns. We then kind of steered into which would we all choose, FPGA Arcade or NatAmi.

Then we started talking about Gribouillis 3 for MorphOS. From Sean’s descritiption, it sounds pretty good. We may try to get the developer on the show. From there we moved on to talking about a Diablo Hack and Slash RPG engine, which got me talking a little about Starcraft, one of the greatest RTS games in all history! Yeah, I went there. Mike then mentioned the project for AROS on Multicore CPUs and we tossed it around a little.

Then we somehow got on the subject of Sony products. From there we talked about Amiga Inc. Yeah, we were looking to really alienate people here. We then talked a little about their tablet that they released a few weeks back. If someone bought one of those, let us know. We’d like to give you our condolences.

That’s it for our big 50th episode! See ya next time!

Some time ago, I posted a story about some changes that were being made to AmiZed Studios. Well, two of those changes are happening or are in the process of happening. And now you can get a sneak peak at something new we’re going to try.

The first is a new podcast call “Hack The Box”. It’s a technology podcast with a slant to Linux and hacking. But not hacking like cracking passwords and breaking into servers. This is hacking in the true sense of the word. Tweaking, coding and modifying something till it does what you want it to do or something totally different from what it was meant to do. Circuit bending would be a great example of this. Not to say we’re doing a show all about that. No, we plan on doing an overview of technology as a whole with some slanting of focus towards Linux. We think it’ll be something a little different and bring a more varied group of listeners to the show.

And as previously talked about, we’re starting to ramp up some Amateur Radio content here on the site. We’re off to a start with some stories on the site, and plan on introducing more varied content in the future. We’re going step by step, and taking our time to get things setup for the next steps. Those I’ll share in a future story.

In the mean time, remember you can follow us on our Facebook page as well as our 2 Twitter feeds.
You’re also free to post comments here on the site and share your thoughts and ideas. We would love to hear them.

I have been an Amateur “Ham” Radio operator for years. Radio in general has always been a passion of mine. Now, I am planning on making it more of a part of this project as well.

I plan on starting out with just some blog posts, and maybe some Twitter “tweets” to get this new area rolling along. From there, I’m hoping to expand into videos and podcasts. While I plan on doing Amiga Roundtable for the foreseeable future, I don’t see me doing it “forever”. The Carrier Whistle podcast, for all intents and purposes is pretty much closed up. But I have noted that it could return with some random episodes from time to time. I also have other ideas for podcasts and new media projects I want to do, that have nothing to do with the Amiga or Commodore communities. And those communities are the core visitors to this site. But I want to expand that.

But getting back to the matter at hand, you can expect more posts about Ham Radio and it’s associated fields. I’ll be re-posting articles, twitter feeds of note that you can follow, as well as videos from others as well as some from myself. I’ll also be setting up a submission page for others to send leads to ideas for stories. All in all, I would like to make the Ham Radio portion of this website as comprehensive as I can. And I invite other Hams, like me, to be a part of this site as well. So with luck, this page will be a great place to just come and enjoy Ham Radio.

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow our Ham Radio Twitter feed at @KB2MOB. The regualr Facebook page for AmiZed Studios is where you can follow us there for new stories posted on the AmiZed site.

If you have ideas, suggestions, or comments, I would love to hear them. Feel free to post them below. Till next time, 73.

AmiZed Studios would like to congratulate Eric W. Schwartz, creator of Amy the Squirrel and the online comic strip Sabrina Online, which has been published on the Internet for over 12 years and has 500 comic strips. Sabrina Online is a comic strip about a web designer named Sabrina Skunk, who has a passion for Amigas and The Transformers and her room mate Amy Squirrel. The strip follows the lives of Sabrina and Amy as they go day to day in their lives. The strip started in 1996 and has steadily added between one to four strips every month. Along with some animated videos of the characters, as well as other characters Eric has created and borrowed from other artists. Eric, an Amiga user and fan has also produced videos celebrating and promoting the Amiga computers, software and community. It’s safe to say Eric has consistently promoted the Amiga in one form or another in the 12 years of his comic strip. His comic has also appeared in a few users group newsletters such as the Amitech-Dayton Amiga Gazette in Dayton, Ohio.

Eric says “..I am not doing this for the money, as my finances seem to show, and my main purpose is to pop out some of the stories I have held onto for too long, as well as to just have fun.” Eric’s work has also garnered an award, 2001′s Cartoonist’s Choice Award for Best Romance Comic, and he’s been interviewed in CU Amiga magazine as well as RetroGamer Magazine, and has been called Mr. Animation for being one of the Amiga’s innovative animators in the late 80′s.

Back in September of 2007, Eric was a guest on Amiga Roundtable and talked about his experience with Amigas and the community as well as his artwork. And in celebration of his achievement, we pulled out his interview from Episode 11, “Jerry Springer, Peace Maker” and we’re re-posting that segment of the show.

We want to congratulate him on his longevity, the quality of his art and stories, and hope to see more of his work in the years to come.

Eric’s comic can be found at http://www.sabrina-online.com (Caution: Some strips may be NSFW)

<itunes:summary>AmiZed Studios would like to congratulate Eric W. Schwartz, creator of Amy the Squirrel and the online comic strip Sabrina Online, which has been published on the Internet for over 12 years and has 500 comic strips. (http://www.amigaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/SabOnline1-300x225.jpg)Sabrina Online is a comic strip about a web designer named Sabrina Skunk, who has a passion for Amigas and The Transformers and her room mate Amy Squirrel. It's safe to say Eric has consistently promoted the Amiga in one form or another in the 12 years of his comic strip. His comic has also appeared in a few users group newsletters such as the Amitech-Dayton Amiga Gazette in Dayton, Ohio.
