The Kim and Rich Show logo
It’s a sad day, as Christmas Kim says goodbye till next year. But we’re working on some other characters to be part of the show for other Holidays, like St. Patrick’s Day Rich? Or maybe President’s Day Kim? Like I said, we’re working on it. Podcast: Play in new window | Download | Embed  Read More →

KARS Episode 25 – Merry Christmas from The Christmas Kim Clan

The Kim and Rich Show logo
I’m writing this after we just got home from Kim’s Aunt and Uncle’s house for Christmas Eve dinner. We spent a great day with Kim’s mother, father and sister. We go there around 10:30 am and had some brunch, then proceeded to open presents. It was a great family Christmas. Podcast: Play in new window | Download | Embed  Read More →

ART Episode 52 – Rogue for The Holidays

ART_logo_med
Merry Christmas to one and all! This episode is just some un-aired audio I had that was kind of dated and I just couldn’t get it out in time. So I figured now was as good as anytime to just “get it out there”. Podcast: Play in new window | Download | Embed  Read More →

KARS Episode 24 – Christmas Kim Goes Christmas CRAAAAZZZZYYYY!!

The Kim and Rich Show logo
The title says it all – it is my favorite week of the year (besides my birthday MONTH of course!) However with age comes responsibility so this is also the busiest week of the year! Cookies and pies to bake, cleaning to do, wrapping to do, parties to attend, friends to entertain, traveling again – I’m making myself dizzy just thinking about it all! But nonetheless I am very excited....

Building Your First Station

YouTube Video Screen shot
A few weeks ago, I posted a video from Tyler, N7FTP, who posted a “Getting Started” kind of video on how to use an antenna tuner. And I am a firm believer in getting back to basics. It’s saved my bacon a bunch of times. When I came across this video, it was a no brainer on if I should post it or not.  Read More →

Amateur Radio High Altitude Balloon Sets Record

Picture of California Near Space Project's Twitter Feed
This is one of the coolest stories for the year I think. Ron Meadows, K6RPT and his son, Lee, launched a high altitude balloon along with the group they lead, the California NEAR Project, on December 11th. The balloon was caught in the jet stream at an altitude between 105,000 and 115,000 feet.  Read More →

Changes Are Happening at AmiZed

AmiZed_News_new
Things change. It’s a fact of life and well, sometimes they happen to podcasts as well as websites. Recently, Kim and I were featured in an article from a local paper called Greenbush Life, that is published by The Record in Troy, N.Y. This was a first step to start making AmiZed a little more than what it is. Let me expand a little.  Read More →

KARS Episode 23 – Christmas Kim The Christmas Queen

The Kim and Rich Show logo
(Playing the part of Kim for this blog today is Rich). Actually no, I’ll just be doing a quick post as Kim was tied up with work today. Needless to say, another episode where I sound like I am half asleep. I just couldn’t seem to get my energy up for the episode. I need to stop eating turkey before the shows. Christmas Gifts for The Ham Radio Operator

ham-radio-on-the-air-neon-sign
One year, the YL asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her, anything Ham Radio related would be a great gift for me. After about 30 seconds of awkward staring at each other, she asked where she could find those kinds of things, as she isn’t a Ham Radio op. I promptly pointed her to the ARRL website, but I also found another option for this year!  Read More →

Number of licensed Hams for the past 12 years.
While doing my usual trolling of the internet, I found a quick little media hit from a Fresno, CA, Fox news station, on the number of licensed Hams in the US. I figured I would share this one.  Read More →

1200+ Mile Contact on 10 Meter Handheld

Screen shot YouTube video
As Hams, we know the phrase “A little goes a long way” is very true in Ham Radio. Anyone working QRP can tell you that. There are people that have worked the other side of the planet with just a few watts. I worked Japan once with 5 watts with Grayline. But check out this video of 1200+ mile contact on a handheld.  Read More →

A Ham’s Night Before Christmas

Screen shot of YouTube Video
‘Tis the season to be jolly and give of yourself to your fellow man. Though I think that should be all year long, but still, around this time of year, it’s nice to spend time with friends and family and enjoy the time. This year I am feeling especially festive, simply because I am with my family. I know, I’m easy to please.  Read More →

How To Use An Antenna Tuner

YouTube Screen shot
It’s always good to review the basics now and again. I know I could use some brushing upon a few things from time to time. Tyler, N7TFP, has made a video on how to tune an antenna. If your building your first station or studying for your exam, then this video is something I suggest you watch.  Read More →
