I recently got a new bike this past weekend and one of the first things to hit me was “How can I attach a radio to this?” Needless to say, the YL wasn’t too happy with the idea. But I was thinking more for APRS. But still, I didn’t really do much thinking how I could attach a radio and antenna to a bike.
So I did what any other self respecting Ham would do, I crowd sourced it. I asked fellow ham radio operators for help with their own ideas and experiences. Some folks sent back some interesting info. Andrew, K1YMI sent back a blog story he found from VA3SIE. I checked it out and it has some great ideas on there as well as an antenna that can be useful for mobile operating.
Then Charles, WX4CB sent me a reply that there are HT mounts that are similar for motor bikes that I could use. Charles also mentioned a mirror mount that he uses. So I manged to get some good ideas to start with. I don’t plan on getting this project 100% going till maybe later on in August. I have a lot on the plate now. But I will be updating this story.
In the mean time, if you have any ideas, please share them in the comments. They are always appreciated. To close up, here’s a video I found on YouTube for running bicycle mobile.
