Screen Shot 2011-07-29 at 8.15.40 AM
For no apparent reason, I woke up this morning, took a shower and ate my oatmeal for breakfast. Sat down a started looking through the emails I got over night and it struck me. Why don’t I look up videos on YouTube of the Munsters. Then I remembered that Herman Munster was a Ham!  Read More →

ARRL Forums are Open for Business

Screen Shot of the ARRL's New Web Forums
I haven’t seen anything on this on Twitter, but every now and again, I like to make sure to check the ARRL’s website for info on what’s going on. It seems that a lot of it seems to not make it to Twitter. Either no one’s retweeting it or I keep missing it on the ARRL’s Twitter.  Read More →

KARS Episode 5 – Is It Hot Enough For Ya’? [AUDIO]

The Kim and Rich Show logo
Time sure does fly. We’re at episode 5 already and having fun doing it. I wasn’t too thrilled with episode 4 because it seemed like we were tired and not interested. I think it was because of Kim’s headache and us talking so low it seemed like it. I was putting myself to sleep. Podcast: Play in new window | Download | Embed  Read More →

Meet Leo Laporte – KJ6QGP

I have been a fan of Leo Laporte for many, many, years. I even had the pleasure to interview him for NewsTek, about his Tricaster and just new media in general. And now, after many years of saying he could be an amazing ambassador for Amateur Radio, it has come to pass, as I had speculated a few months back, Leo is now KJ6QGP.  Read More →

A Dozen Radios in One Car. [VIDEO]

YouTube Screen Shot
So I guess this video is as viral as you can get in the Ham Radio Community. But the name of the video lives up to what you see in it. I guess you could almost say it’s something you would see on HamSexy. But everyone has their own way.  Read More →

Op-Eddie: “AmigaOS 5 Beta” Released, Hear it Roar

Eddie Cejvan
The wait is finally over. You may have been waiting with baited breath. You might have been a cynic, refusing the possibility of it happening but in the receses of your mind kept the ‘hope light’ on, just in case. Either way, the sufficient amount of time has passed and those who are still watching “the show” can now have an early look at the coolness that is the OS paradigm shift that is AmigaOS...

A Radio Shack store in the Plaza Caracol shopping center on Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascensio in the city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico
In a recent post on their blog, Radio Shack is saying they heard us and gave us a top 10 list of the things people want to see change in Radio Shack stores. This was a response to their first post, and reading through the comments, you get the idea that they got an ear full as well as the response they were looking for.  Read More →

Texas May Lose 2 Meter Simplex Frequencies

Texas VHF-FM Society Logo
I saw this story come across my Twitter feed the other night, and figured I should pass this along. According to Aaron Scott, WX5VHF, The Texas VHF-FM Society is planning on changing the 2 meter band plan for Texas to make more room for D-Star repeater pairs by using simplex frequencies, but those simplex frequencies appear to be in heavy use throughout the state.   Read More →

Meet Diana Eng, KC2UHB [VIDEO]

Diana Eng in a YouTube Video for Make Magazine
I’m not a reality show fan by any stretch, so I didn’t know about Diana Eng, KC2UHB, till I came across her videos on YouTube for Make Magazine, about a year ago. But she was a contestant on the second season of Project Runway, and is a member of the ARRL Public Relations Committee.   Read More →

Bicycle Mobile – “Pedaling” Amatuer Radio [VIDEO]

A YouTube Screen shot
I recently got a new bike this past weekend and one of the first things to hit me was “How can I attach a radio to this?” Needless to say, the YL wasn’t too happy with the idea. But I was thinking more for APRS. But still, I didn’t really do much thinking how I could attach a radio and antenna to a bike.  Read More →

Coax Stripping 101 and Trouble Shooting

A Close Up of the PL-259 Attached to my Larson Antenna
So I finally got around to putting the Larsen antenna on the car. I hooked up Yaesu FT-2800 and keyed one of the local repeaters only to find that it shut off and restarted the radio. It did that before when I has a short in the PL-259. Then I was dumb founded what was causing it, so I went to my friend Andrew, K1YMI, to get another set of eyes on the problem to check it. That is when I learned of...

ARISS School Contact with German School [VIDEO]

YouTube Screen shot
Since I started following the ISS Fan Club on Twitter, I have noticed that they post a lot of statuses for packet on the station. HamTwit – Because We’re All Twits

Screen shot of HamTwit.net
It’s almost like I had this all planned. Earlier in the week I posted a little mini review of Echolink for iOS, then I posted about Ham Radio and Twitter being good for each other. Now, I’m posting about a net called HamTwit that meets on Echolink and a RF repeater based in Texas. But the truth is, I wasn’t planning all this. No, really!  Read More →

New Poll is Up: Do You Use Twitter to Spot DX?

New Poll
Our latest Amateur Radio story talked about Twitter and using it for Amateur Radio. As Hams embrace new technology rather than fear it. And since many Hams from all over the world are now using it some to even report DX spots and even self spotting, which is frowned apoun on the regular DX Clusters, we were curious….  Read More →

Ham Radio and Twitter – Like Peanut Butter and Jelly

Screen shot of Rich's Twitter Client
Like any geek, I love when new things come out that look really cool and fun. I want to try them out right away. Google+ is one example. I begged for invites to get on. But before that was Twitter. I was a little hesitant to get on it, but after some of the Tech broadcasters I enjoy started to use and talk about it, I hopped on and found myself really enjoying the experience, and challenge.  Read More →

Echolink for iOS

Echolink for iOS
Now this app has been in the iTunes app store for some time. But I’m sure there are a few people with iPod Touches, iPhones or iPads that didn’t know about it. I mean come on, there’s over 200,000 apps in there. So I figured I would just post some apps here and there that I have downloaded and tried out for Ham Radio on iOS devices.  Read More →

Amiga Emulator for iOS Another Step Closer

I just got a Google Alert this morning, that TouchArcade has a hands on preview of the new iAmiga emulator for the Apple iOS, and it’s just a few weeks away from making it’s debut on the iTunes App store, and Cinemaware’s 1986 classic Defender of the Crown will be the first, fully licensed, title to be available for Manomio‘s upcoming iAmiga emulation system for iOS.   Read More →
