Op-Ed: Paranoia? No that’s my natural state of mind.

I’ve been surfing the boards to kinda get a feel for what’s on
people’s minds in the Amiga Community. Some of what I have been seeing
just seems like bull shit to me. People jumping on people for what to
me seem like trivial matters. Someone jumped on someone else for a
media release because it contained the words “For Immediate Release”,
not realizing this is a standard thing in just about ALL media
releases. What were they expecting? I don’t know, but it makes me
think about somethings in the community that I believe, if we stepped
back, grabbed a beer and a slice of ‘za, and sat down, and relax for a
minute, we may want to moderate our own comments.

Something I learned at my current job is called “The Perception of
Positive Intent”. What this is, is a mindset, that on the whole,
people are good and fair and are not really trying to fool you or rip
you off when the situation that has been presented to you, is both
logical and plausible. Basically, the person standing in front of you
is not trying to rip you off when he offers you a beer or asks a
question. Now yes, there are some people that are out there with the
intention of ripping you off or fooling you or what have you, but I
would safely say, that is a small number of people. Yet is seem like
in the Amiga Community, we’re kind of paranoid. Every announcement is
taken with a grain of salt. Frak, 500 grains for salt!! (“Screenshots
or it doesn’t exist!” )

Has the community been burned? Hell yes! More than a few times. Should
we be cautious? Of course! Nothing wrong with being cautious. It’s
what keeps many people alive. But there’s a point where cautious
becomes paranoia and I think some in the Amiga Community have reached
that point. And I guarantee, that someone will read that last sentence
and exclaim I just called the entire community paranoid, BECAUSE THEY
THEMSELVES ARE PARANOID! Oh how I wish I had stock in Eli Lilly and
Company, makers of Prozac.

Basically, what I’m saying is, let’s all step back, take a breath,
grab that frosty adult beverage and a slice of ‘za and chill the frak
out. No need to be paranoid. It’s just a computer.

  1. I disagree with the “it is just a computer” statement.

It is actually much more than that. If it was just a computer, then we would not be talking about it at all after so many setbacks.

it represents a much larger, almost ZEN quality type statement on life and existence and the meaning of life.

Well, maybe not quite that dramatic, but somewhere between that and it is just a computer.

    :)

to him he much rahter dad gets of the pc
and spend time with him l spend hours tinking
with pcs and worrying and altering and in the end you got think what does it really matter.

    no, not quite paranoia.
It’s more about dreams, nostalgic dreams.

Most of us were teens when Commodore went bankrupt.

While some of us are still young, time passes on.
The Amiga dream, instead, is firmly crystallized: youth, friendship, the scene, eternal rivalries …

don’t get upset if people reacts like … “break my sweet memories and I will break your bones” … it’s part of the game, i suppose.
