It’s all about Amiga OS 4.1 now available on the SAM 440 Mobo from ACube. We knew it was coming, so we dig a little deeper into what we think might have been the underlying reasons of why now and not earlier and also talk about some of the mixed comments we’ve read on some of the boards.
Plus the usual M$ and Amiga Inc. bashing. (Yeah, hard habit to break.)

To add such things to the Amiga would be unnacceptable to me if they were to become part of the OS of the future. If however, as has been discussed, we go down a dual path of developing a new Open Amiga operating SYStem (OASYS) firmly based upon the principles of the old OS with new ones added then I see no problem in adding a few cludges to the old codebase to parallel what will exist on the new system IF IT IS UNDERSTOOD that the OASYS codebase will completely replace the old codebase + cludges when it is ready and that new development written for it will run properly on the new system (part of the great migration plan).

Nice one Tom.
It’s both a trip down memory lane and a concise collection of ideas that I will assimilate into my ongoing research.
She certainly is different and she should never ever change that about her.

One place I think the Amiga might find a niche is as an open console that you can create and distribute your own games on. 2 Decades ago, kids made their own games all the time and share and brag to their friends. This whole dynamic is gone today! XBox, Wii, PS3.. great hardware, but kids can’t touch it. So, their left to mindlessly plug away with their controllers for hours and hours.
I’d love to see kids have the option to make, not just play the games. And an Amiga as an open console could cater to that. I.e. make a BASIC like environment that is very approachable by kids, where the results can be sent down the street to his friend, or even downloaded for a cell phone version.
I think kids would get into that AGAIN!
Yeah, I remember the EA Construction kit on the C=64 and the Apple ][e for making your own games. And I may be wrong, but wasn’t there something like that for the Atari 2600 too?
But yeah, I could see that.
The hobbyist programming community is the main niche Amiga can occupy ! The geek OS crowd.
